10 Things to Know Before Visiting SEE THE SEA — A First-Timer’s Guide

SEE THE SEA select & resort is a café and select shop located at Umikaji Terrace on Senaga Island, Okinawa. We serve healthy, flavor-forward dishes made with locally sourced Okinawan ingredients, alongside a curated collection of resort-casual apparel. Just a 15-minute drive from Naha Airport, we’re open every day of the year. In this article, we’ve gathered the ten questions first-time visitors ask us most.

■ Q1. Where is SEE THE SEA?

We’re at 174-6 Senaga, Tomigusuku City, Okinawa — on the 4th floor of Umikaji Terrace, shop number 41. The easiest landmark: right next to Shuri Soap. About 15 minutes by car from Naha Airport, Senaga Island is one of the closest resort spots to the airport. We’re also near the hotel-side entrance and bus stop at Umikaji Terrace, so you can reach us easily even without a rental car.

■ Q2. What are your hours? Do you have any regular holidays?

We’re open from 11:00 to 21:00 (last order for food and drinks at 20:30), every single day of the year. Whether it’s the first day or the last day of your Okinawa trip, you can stop by without worrying about the schedule. We serve the same menu all day — from lunch through dinner — so feel free to come for a late lunch or an early supper, whatever fits your travel plans.

■ Q3. Do I need a reservation?

No reservation needed — just walk in whenever you like. From the terrace, you can take in the blue waters around the Kerama Islands and watch planes descend into Naha Airport, all while enjoying a meal in the open air. During busy times there may be a short wait, but even that becomes a small luxury when you’re gazing out at the Senaga Island scenery.

■ Q4. Is there parking? How do I get there?

Free shared parking is available at Umikaji Terrace. From Naha Airport, it’s about 15 minutes by car — just cross the bridge to Senaga Island from Route 331. You can also take a local bus from Naha Bus Terminal (Senaga Island line). Many visitors stop by on their last day in Okinawa, right before heading to the airport.

■ Q5. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit cards (VISA / Mastercard / JCB / AMEX), as well as cash. We also support e-money and QR code payments, so you can visit us empty-handed with complete peace of mind.

■ Q6. Do you have allergy-friendly or gluten-free options?

Yes. Our signature dishes are gluten-free (no wheat) and plant-based (100% plant-derived). The Special Taco Rice contains absolutely no wheat, dairy, or animal-derived ingredients — so guests with allergies and vegans alike can enjoy the same meal together with their families. This menu was born from a single customer’s words: “I’ve given up on eating out at tourist spots because of my allergies.”

■ Q7. What is the “Chura Banana Smoothie”?

It’s our signature drink, made with a rare variety called “Apple Banana” — shipped directly from a contract farm in Yanbaru, northern Okinawa. With a sugar content exceeding 25 Brix, the rich sweetness and aroma are in a completely different league from an ordinary banana smoothie. More than a few customers have told us: “What have I been drinking all this time?”

■ Q8. How is the “Special Taco Rice” different from a regular taco rice?

A typical taco rice is made with ground meat, cheese, and wheat-based seasonings. Ours replaces every one of those with plant-based ingredients. Instead of animal fat and cheese, we use a method that scientifically maximizes the umami — glutamic acid and guanylic acid — naturally present in vegetables. As our owner puts it: “This wasn’t made because of dietary restrictions. This is simply the most delicious version.”

■ Q9. What are the “Handmade Beni-Imo Tacos”?

These are tacos made with our original gluten-free tortillas, kneaded with Okinawan purple sweet potato (beni-imo). The vivid reddish-purple shell isn’t just beautiful to look at — the natural starchiness of beni-imo gives the tortilla an authentic, chewy texture even without wheat flour. Each one is hand-pressed and grilled in-house every day, creating a flavor that simply can’t be replicated in any factory.

■ Q10. What kind of products does the select shop carry?

Under the theme of “resort casual,” we carry a curated selection of apparel from Japan and abroad. Our owner is a professional with over 20 years of experience in the apparel industry. Drawing on the trained eye for materials he developed through OEM (contract manufacturing), he selects pieces that aren’t just “souvenir clothes” but “the perfect outfit for your trip.” We also carry store-exclusive SEE THE SEA logo goods — ideal as an Okinawa travel keepsake.
